Let’s be honest, ADUs, Remodels and Additions are both simple and complicated at the same time. Engineering for this type of work is often based on speculations, and can require major design changes if field conditions don’t match what was anticipated. For this reason, many Building Departments only require engineering on parts of the design, and they expect a Licensed Contractor to improvise a code-compliant design as they go. This makes it difficult to find an Engineer to help when a Building Department does require plans or calculations for the limited scopes of these projects. Kral Engineering has assisted with 40+ limited scope projects in the past several years, and these are typically done at cost as our way of helping regular people contribute to resolving our housing deficiency in California. Unfortunately this work doesn’t keep our doors open, so we are unable to take very many each year.
